Symbolism & Art in a Pandemic Time

Global Healing for Global Freedom
Global Healing for Global Freedom

Hoping you are all ok.

The Pandemic seems to be more under control now, as more people are being vaccinated. There are variants of the virus that still bring concern but optimism is starting to be prevalent in North America and Europe. In South America and India they are still going trough terrible times, our prayers now are for them, and for all the humanity.

In a moment of reflection the artwork  'Global Healing for Global Freedom' was created.

It's an Alchemical Artwork, with a wish thrown to the Universe: the desire of fighting and ending the Pandemic.

It has archetypes like the lion, the bird, the rising sun, the Druid in a secret subterranean cave with fire, the four elements in the four dots at one side of the Druid, gold in the arch, the ouroboros in the moon and the mountains.

Being an alumn of Ann McCoy, an amazing YALE teacher specialized in  Alchemical Art, has been very illuminating for me, being always thirsty for knowledge.

I always liked embedding my art with mystery and symbolism. This artwork from the year 2003, "Desierto", narrates the drama of the migrants crossing the desert in Arizona, looking for a better life, many times loosing the fight and dying in the journey like the woman in the painting with a tail of a reptile symbolizing the danger. .

The theme of migrants is recurrent as living in México for many years it was usual to find them on the streets, mostly women and children, asking for money or selling items while walking their way to the North with great sacrifices as what they have left behind impulse their journey even though they aren't welcome in their desired destiny.

My artwork 'Migration' was created in the year 2020 looking birds flying free in the sky of my patio at Vancouver and reflecting about the terrible tragedy of migrants, mostly children, being put in cages, having less rights than the birds. To avoid that they need to hide. I painted them hiding in the beautiful bushes.

Congrats Caro on these paintings, they reflect the complexity and the beauty of humanity. I love your artwork!!!

Dear Caro, Great meditation about the times we live in and the tragedies we witness either caused by a virus or those caused by despair and greed. I specially loved -Desierto”... We need art to remind us we can turn darkness into light. Thank you for sharing! Adriana
